30 years ago I wanted to save the world as a newly minted doctor! Before graduating medical school I wanted to be a personal trainer (but mom wanted me to be a doctor). And look at what I do now - lifestyle change! That seed inside me never went away, I just found another way to express it and serve the world. I began my journey on human physiology and behavior back in college when going to the library and looking up the dewey decimal system was a thing. Dont get me wrong, I follow the newest data and call on old school actionable methods to avoid life obstacles.

With the challenges of maintaining productivity while employed by a large corporation vs the complexity of determining root cause analysis, I have found balance! Fortunately, the years of post graduate training have connected me with the most brilliant minds/teachers in the last few decades. Dr Andrew Weil, Dr Deepak Chopra, Dr Herb Benson, Dr Joseph Helms, my teachers for sports medicine, yoga practice, acupuncture and herbal medicines have brought me to my current level of problem solving. The more you learn, the more you don’t know so I have resigned myself to be a perpetual student. I organize community lectures monthly at St Joseph Prime Healthcare Hospital and have found the attendees learn much from the subject matter but the speakers (myself included) learn just as much from the inquisitive people in the audience. Note that I will have to keep on-time with the daily schedule HOWEVER with 30+ years in this space between western medicine and complementary/alternative medicine, I can help you! Get in ASAP as the news of establishing a hospital practice is just beginning, when people discover my style of “doctoring”, the first available date will get farther away. FAQ’s

How much is the 2025 membership fee?

As of summer 2025, $1200.00 annually and automatically billed until cancelled. First time patients are allowed to. purchase a Single Consult at $500.00 HOWEVER after the consult only 21 days are allowed to consider deducting the charge from the annual price. Any patient deciding after 21 days must pay the current full membership price.

Can I use HSA/FSA to pay for Consult/Membership?

Yes, usually most cards will allow for purchasing a consult with the clinic. Please check your. options before payment as. this is non refundable.

Do you take medical insurance?

In addition to the membership fee, yes each consult/collaboration will be billed to your insurance. We use G&G Billing and they can courtesy submit to your insurance company however patients are responsible for any balance that is unpaid.

Should I get blood testing before the initial consult?

IF you are only purchasing the Test Drive consult, Yes! Having blood tests ordered by DrRic BEFORE would optimize time spent by providing more data points to analyze (in addition to a full Integrative Intake history). As an Annual Member, blood tests can be ordered after the visit. (note: quest diagnostics usually takes 2-3 weeks for completing results)

How do I know if the blood ordered is covered by my insurance?

Due to the multitudes of different insurance, it is the patient’s responsibility to make sure they know about annual deductible, labs drawing centers that are covered (if you call the insurance after you receive the orders, they should be able to approve or let you know what you are responsible for paying out of pocket)

How many visits in the year can I consult DrRic for lifestyle change or sickness.

It is suggested to follow up every 2months especially after deploying lifestyle change to make sure the implemented suggestions are working and if modifications are required. Remember your insurance will be billed for each visit thus the importance of understanding what is covered by insurance (for example wellness visits are usually covered once a year with a primary care doc). You will probably be responsible for out of pocket fees even if all consults are virtual.

IF you are choosing a “Test Drive” single consult…you will only have 1 visit along with. a grace period of 21 days to decide on joining the Annual Membership group and avail of multiple consults along with continued communication. All prior patients will be able to email doctor but you will be expected to follow up with your primary care for refills, new testing or all other issues.

If I do NOT use all 6 suggested consults in the 12months, can I still reserve a virtual visit?

Once your 12month membership expires, assuming you choose to NOT automatically be billed for another year, you will NOT be allowed to reserve further consults. Doctors’ membership panel is exclusive and we must dedicate all available communication and time to enrolled patients ONLY.

If I will not be renewing an Annual Membership or if I only have a single Test Drive Consult, can I have an entire year of medicine refills called in?

No. All medicines can lead to side effects and blood tests are required (and updated consulting) BEFORE providing long term refills. It is expected at the time of decision to opt out of the practice, a new primary care physician has been chosen and visit established. (note: there are very limited physicians that have been fellowship trained in Integrative Medicine/Sports Medicine/Family Medicine)

Can I ask for a refund if not satisfied with the consult or the membership?

Refund for Single Test Drive Consults will NOT be allowed once the service is provided. In certain circumstances, people choose to not re-enlist but if the Annual Membership fee is automatically charged, we can provide a refund (minus the processing fee charged by Bank of America which can be up to 7+% ). Note: the membership is exclusive to a limited number of patients and if you take a space, you would have blocked a new member from joining!

I returned to being an employee with a large organization in Indiana 2023 working what I call fast medicine. I have recently committed St Joseph Prime Healthcare in Elgin IL. With the return to a busy schedule at hospital, I have closed my concierge clinic to a case by case enrollment.

All old patients are invited to see me in Elgin with Prime Healthcare St Joseph Hospital. Full disclosure, the expectation of being an employed physician is to see patients every 15minutes. In my new position, I cannot allow my intensive personalized medicine interview. Unfortunately standard practice is usually to refer to other medical specialties and optimize prescription medicines and procedures.

Please take no offense if my style is different and brief compared to pre-pandemic practice. I utilize great referrals to specialists in the Elgin area and ancillary care like physical therapy with Prime Healthcare. To compensate for truncated time in office I am working with the Illinois Prime Healthcare region to educate with monthly group visits for more time allotment for education and questions/answers. Most insurances will cover group visits and we will begin having reservations for the fall and winter 2026-2027 from established to St Joe’s.

With the hospital, I do not work full time and I do not work on weekends. There are no after hours contact and most urgent requests are handled by medical assistants or other providers like Maria Bitting. Any emergent or after hours medical problems are to be seen in ER or local immediate care centers.
